Grassrivers: Airboats, Gators, and the Glades of Leonida

By LEONIDA HUB — the unofficial GTA VI fan hub. Original writing; facts sourced below.

If Vice City is Leonida's spotlight, Grassrivers is its wet, wild interior — a confirmed region of wetlands, channels, and sawgrass that Rockstar lists alongside Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga. This is the Glades of Leonida: not a backdrop you drive past, but a place where the road gives out and the water takes over.

Confirmed in Trailer 2, captured on PS5

Grassrivers was shown in Trailer 2, released in May 2025, which Rockstar confirmed was captured entirely on a standard PlayStation 5. In Grassrivers, that shows in water, reeds, mud, and weather — the details that decide whether a swamp feels alive or flat. Our newsroom tracks the Trailer 2 reveal in order, and our interactive map of Leonida places Grassrivers where Rockstar places it: inland, spread out, and deliberately hard to cross quickly.

Airboats are not a guess — they are confirmed

Some regions invite speculation. This one comes with a vehicle class already attached. In reporting from Game Informer on September 29, Rockstar confirmed a stack of side activities for GTA VI, and air boating is on that list — alongside kayaking, jet skiing, scuba diving, and off-road racing. An airboat is built for shallow water and dense vegetation where a propeller boat would choke and a car cannot go at all. Plan your first session around getting off the road and onto the water early, then learning which channels connect.

Gators, and a much bigger food chain

The wildlife is confirmed at scale. The Game Informer cover story in September reported over 170 animal species in Leonida, including alligators, manatees, flamingos, pelicans, sharks, and whales, with 60-plus bird species and more than 30 land mammals. Alligators are the headline for Grassrivers, but they are not the point on their own. A region with that many species is one Rockstar expects you to slow down in — to watch, to avoid, and sometimes to run from.

What the confirmed vehicles tell us

The vehicles already tied to Grassrivers in official screenshots tell the same story from a different angle. The Karin Rebel, a Hilux-style pickup, the Dinka Sugoi hot hatch, and the Zirconium Journey II motorhome have all appeared in Grassrivers screenshots on this hub's database. That mix suggests a lived-in rural region, not an empty nature reserve. Browse the full list in our vehicle database and notice how different the Grassrivers picks look from a Vice Beach starter garage.

How to use Grassrivers in your first week

Do not save the swamp for last. Go in your first week, while you are still learning Leonida's scale — Rockstar has confirmed this is the largest GTA map ever, by some degree, and Grassrivers is a big reason why distances feel different here. Learn one safe route in, one airboat channel through, and one road out. If you want to test whether this region fits your play style before launch, take the district quiz — Grassrivers is in there for players who would rather vanish into the wild than cruise the strip.

What is still not confirmed

Hold the detailed claims loosely. Rockstar has not published a complete Grassrivers town list, a full trail map, or a breakdown of exactly which story missions take place in the Glades, and any pre-launch map that claims to label every hideout and settlement here as official should be treated as RUMOR. The same goes for exact gator behavior and hunting systems — none of that has been confirmed as a mechanic. What is confirmed is enough: a real region, confirmed air boating, confirmed alligators among 170-plus species, and a wetland interior big enough to change how the whole map feels.

Grassrivers in one line

A confirmed wetland region where Leonida slows down, the roads thin out, and the water — and the gators in it — set the rules. GTA VI launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Learn the Glades early, and the rest of Leonida will make more sense.
