Mount Kalaga National Park: Leonida's Wild North

By LEONIDA HUB — the unofficial GTA VI fan hub. Original writing; facts sourced below.

Every map needs a place that pushes back. In Leonida, that place is Mount Kalaga National Park — a confirmed region Rockstar lists alongside Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, and Port Gellhorn. If Vice City is the state's neon front door and Grassrivers is its wet interior, Kalaga is its wild north: the high country on the official region list, and the part of Leonida most players know the least about before launch.

A confirmed name on a very short list

Start with what is solid. Rockstar's confirmed areas for GTA VI are a short, specific list — Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga — and that list has held steady through the later reveals. When Rockstar settled the theme-park question in October reporting carried on this hub, the answer came with that same six-region list and no theme-park parody attached. Kalaga is not a fan invention or a map-maker's guess at a name. It is on the list. Our newsroom keeps that list in order, and our interactive map of Leonida places Kalaga where it belongs: up north, away from the coast, at the far end of the state from the Keys.

Why a national park changes the whole map

A national park is a design promise, even before any detail is shown. It tells you Rockstar built a region meant to be explored slowly rather than crossed at speed — and that fits a confirmed scale claim: Leonida is the largest GTA map ever, by some degree, confirmed via Game Informer reporting in September. A map that big needs contrast. Vice City gives you density, the Keys give you water and distance, Grassrivers gives you wetlands — and Kalaga gives you elevation and wilderness, the vertical counterweight that makes the flat, bright coast feel like only one corner of a much bigger state.

Wildlife is confirmed — at serious scale

Whatever Kalaga holds, it will not be empty. The Game Informer cover story in September reported over 170 animal species across Leonida, including more than 60 bird species and over 30 land mammals, alongside alligators, manatees, flamingos, pelicans, sharks, and whales in the wetter regions. Rockstar has not published a Kalaga-specific species list, so do not believe any post that names its exact animals as fact. But a confirmed national park inside a world built with that much wildlife is a safe bet to be one of the best places in the game to simply stop, look, and listen.

Confirmed ways to play the wild

The confirmed side activities point the same direction. In September, Rockstar confirmed off-road racing among a stack of side activities that also includes air boating, kayaking, jet skiing, scuba diving, and base jumping. Off-road racing needs exactly what a national park region offers: dirt, distance, and terrain that fights the vehicle. Treat Kalaga as a destination, not a detour — pick a capable off-roader from our vehicle database, and if you want to know whether the wild north fits your play style before you ever drive there, take the district quiz.

What is still not confirmed

Be honest about the gaps, because Kalaga has more of them than any other confirmed region. Rockstar has not published Kalaga's trail network, its exact peak height, its towns or lodges, or which story missions — if any — are set there. Detailed claims about snow, specific hiking systems, or named summits are RUMOR at this point, no matter how confident a pre-launch map looks. Even this hub's own quiz describes the northern high country in rumored terms, and that label is the right one for everything beyond the name, the park status, and the region's place on the official list.

Kalaga in one line

A confirmed national park in Leonida's north — the wild, elevated counterweight to Vice City, in the largest map Rockstar has ever made. GTA VI launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Save a full day for the north — Kalaga is where Leonida stops performing and starts hiding things.
