The Leonida Keys: What We Know About the Island Chain

By LEONIDA HUB — the unofficial GTA VI fan hub. Original writing; facts sourced below.

If Vice City is Leonida's spotlight, the Leonida Keys are its southern edge — a confirmed island chain, a long way in spirit from downtown neon, and the place GTA VI's story starts at home. Rockstar lists the Keys among the confirmed areas of the game, alongside Vice City, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga. They are Jason Duval's ground, and understanding them explains how his half of the story begins.

Confirmed, not guessed: a region in its own right

The Keys were revealed in Trailer 2, released in May 2025 and confirmed by Rockstar as captured entirely on a standard PlayStation 5. The trailer showed Jason's life in the Keys — work, home, and the everyday rhythm of the islands — before Lucia Caminos walks out of Leonida Penitentiary and their stories collide. Our newsroom tracks that reveal in order, and our interactive map of Leonida places the Keys where Rockstar places them: an island chain stretching away from the mainland, not another Vice City neighborhood with a beach added.

Jason's home ground

Rockstar's own character summary is specific about this place. Jason grew up around grifters and crooks in the Leonida Keys, did a stint in the Army to shake his troubled teens, then fell back in working for local drug runners back home. He wants an easy life, but things keep getting harder — and meeting Lucia could be, in Rockstar's words, the best or the worst thing to ever happen to him. Read that against the map and the Keys stop being scenery: a small, connected place where everybody knows the work and each other, where an easy score gone wrong lands differently than in an anonymous city.

What life in the Keys looks like so far

The confirmed details point to a slower, water-led pace. This hub's district quiz describes the Keys, based on the confirmed material, as dock-town life at boat speed — and the vehicles already tied to the area back that up. The Dinka Marquis, a classic sailing yacht, was spotted off the Leonida Keys in Trailer 2. The Canis Mesa, a Wrangler-style off-roader, appears in official screenshots set in the Keys. Even the Dashound coach shows up on a Leonida Keys postcard — a reminder the chain is connected to the mainland. Browse the full list in our vehicle database before you decide what your first Keys drive should be.

How to use the Keys in your first hours

Start here before you chase the skyline. Learn the causeways and the water, learn which roads actually connect one island to the next, and learn Jason's neighborhood at walking pace while the story is still small and personal. Island chains reward players who memorize routes early: there are fewer ways in and out, so knowing the one fast way out is worth more here than anywhere else on the map. If you want to test which region fits your play style before launch, take the district quiz — the Keys are one of its confirmed outcomes for a reason.

What is still not confirmed

Hold the rest loosely. Rockstar has not confirmed a complete list of individual islands, towns, or businesses in the Keys, and any detailed island-by-island map you see presented as official before launch should be treated as RUMOR — interesting, possibly plausible, and not a fact until Rockstar says so. The same goes for claims about exactly how much of Jason's story stays in the Keys. What is confirmed is enough: a real region, a real home, and a real starting point.

The Keys in one line

A confirmed island chain at Leonida's southern edge, Jason Duval's home ground, and the quiet end of the map where GTA VI's story begins. GTA VI launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — meet the Keys first, and Vice City will hit harder when you finally cross to it.
